  1. First, if you're going to be editing fonts, make sure you read the docs!
  2. The most important file is edv.doc.  If you want to extract a font from
  3. another program/file, read extract.doc.  Copyfont.doc is recommended
  4. reading, but you don't have to read it before you can use the programs.
  5. Sources.doc is not required either, unless/until you want to add a font to
  6. this archive.

  8. Second, you should figure out where you're going to install all these
  9. files.  I suggest making a directory off your root drive (e.g.,
  10. C:\VGAFONTS\) or a subdirectory under your utility directory (e.g.,
  11. C:\UTIL\VGAFONTS\).  Next, dump everything from the archive in your new
  12. fonts directory.  Programs that you want to use from any directory should
  13. go in your \UTIL\ directory or in another directory in your PATH statement.
  14. If you want to use LF.BAT, it should go in \BATCH\ or \BELFRY\ or in
  15. another directory in your PATH statement.  Don't forget to edit the batch
  16. file before you use it; you'll need to change the file paths to match your
  17. system.

  19. Third, when you distribute this package, please follow these guidelines:

  21.    - The archive name should be EDV###, where ### is the version number.
  22.  
  23.    - Please do not distribute the package without all the files; this is
  24.      very rude to those who will be downloading or otherwise getting the
  25.      archive.
  26.  
  27.    - If you're going to add new fonts to the archive, please read
  28.      SOURCES.DOC.

  30.    - I'm not very particular about which compression program is used to
  31.      distribute this package; if (for example) you got it in ARJ format and
  32.      you want to upload it to a board which doesn't accept ARJ files, go
  33.      ahead and convert the archive to a ZIP file.  But don't forget to
  34.      include all the files!

  37. Note:  if you don't have much room on your hard drive (or don't have a hard
  38. drive at all), you could edit the LF batch file to temporarily extract
  39. fonts from within a Zip file or other archive as you invoked each one.
  40. This will save a fair amount of room, but loading each font will take
  41. longer.  Another alternative, if you just use a few fonts, is to use EDV to
  42. save your favorites as .COM files.  A font saved this way can be used
  43. without any other files; just type the name of the font to load it.
